Is your RV's hot water too hot? Here's a solution

Many RVs come with a fixed water heater thermostat that is too hot for many people -- so hot it could actually hurt small children. If this is the case for you, watch RV Today host Stew Oleson find out the solution: to exchange the fixed thermostat for an adjustable one so you can lower the temperature to where you find it comfortable.

Can't see the replacement process very well. Lots of closeups of his fingers and hand.

RV hot water tanks are small. If you turn the temperature down you will run out of hot water sooner. A better solution is to install a tempering valve and leave the water heater temperature alone. This valve mixes a bit of cold water with the hot water and sends the resultant warm water down the hot water line. Any good plumbing shop can sell you one of these and they install easily, only three ports. We used these on our trawler...sort of like a floating RV.

Set video to 'Zoom' for full-screen.
Looks easy enough!
As a woman who's never done this kind of work, I think it's well within my ability. However, has the new thermostat been set in tightly enough to ensure it has firm contact with the water heater? Is there space available to push the flanges back, into place, to hold it i? That was not clear on the video. My only fear is that it's a friction fit and will vibrate out of contact. Otherwise, excellent video!!

That set up certainly doesn't look like it will stay in contact with the tank!!...The lower the temp the less warm water you'll have for all your cleaning purpose!..
